Week 9 – Detroit Community-Engaged Research Program

Week 9

In my first blog post, I wrote about what community means to me. I still stand by my statement that the community is coming together to achieve a common goal and/or an environment where you feel comfortable coming together with others. I believe community is important because it provides a sense of security and allows you to be at ease.

The strength that I believed would help me be successful at my community project was that I am open-minded. I believe this helped me tremendously because being open-minded allowed me to fully immerse myself in the community of postpartum mothers and give them a safe space to express themselves.

I was also able to strengthen my research skills this summer as I analyzed the data from practitioner interviews that I conducted. I enjoyed doing this work at my site because I was able to be hands-on in the community and hear from professionals.

Overall, I am very proud to see how far all of the moms have come and I aim keep in touch and see how things are going!
