Learning about all of the different hidden gems that the news does not talk about is such an amazing experience. I am learning about more parts of Detroit that I never had a chance to explore, such as Southwest Detroit. I saw a mural on the way to a meeting with other organizations. On my way into the building I took a picture of this painting of a family playing together in the park. My supervisor told me that the painting was actually made up of smaller painting s that the community painted. The community was asked to paint something that they would like to see in their community. I felt so touch because I really loved how they put all of the community pictures together in a whole painting. The next step towards making a community happy and flourishing is listening to community members and taking action. I chose to take a picture because I never want to forget this painting. I really love art and this art has such a beautiful meaning behind it. I love seeing the community working together. I love seeing Brilliant Detroit helping bring the community together and take what they learn and implement activities themselves. Our supervisor lets us know all the time that they don’t want this organization to feel like a program but a family. I felt that family atmosphere the day I walked in on the first day of work. There is so much genuine love here and I hope that this love can spread to more communities. A community that works together stays together. This gives me some hope for the future of Detroit neighborhoods. We can not rely on the government to help us; they have stopped caring about us a long time ago, so it is up to us, the community members and allies to build the city back up. This will not happen over night but we are stepping in the right direction. I hope this encourages other neighborhoods in Detroit to try and build up their communities in any way that they can.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
I am finding a true love for Detroit.
