The 67 tour was an event that stood out to me because the history discussed really characterise the racial tension in Detroit at the time – and the lasting consequences after. The scope of it was something I hadn\u2019t thought about on as deep a level as I think I should have and I appreciated how we were presented various angles to analyse the conflict. The discussion on whether or not it could\/should be considered a riot also had me thinking deeper about my respect for civil rights history and frustrations with continuing perceptions of figures like Malcolm X and The BPP – in regards to what civil rights \u201cshould\u201d look like. The event had me debating between my respect for organised\/civil movement and my empathy towards civil disobedience in black history, and, for that depth, I appreciated it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
