Dear fellows,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nine weeks may not seem like very long, but as I read the letter I wrote to myself week one, I can’t help but notice many of my expectations (good and bad) of this summer were not met. As I reflect, I am particularly grateful that I was able to learn so much from my supervisor, and I didn’t expect to form the close relationship that we did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SWDCJC also reopened far smoother than my supervisor or I expected. With careful planning, we were able to start growing and improving the center during this pandemic. Completing the grant for the human trafficking services and outreach program was a challenge, but it was a project we were ready to tackle because of my supervisor’s determination to continue to serve Detroiters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to my experience at the SWDCJC, being a part of DCERP as our nation works to open its eyes to and dismantle system racism throughout the country was incredibly impactful. I was thankful to have other caring and motivated students working to continue this necessary dialogue in communities. You all were a great source of inspiration and strength this summer; I can’t wait to meet you all in the fall or any time down the road. I can’t wait to see what you all continue to accomplish. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am sad to see my connection to Detroit tested as this program ends and I head back to school, but I know there will be more opportunities to understand, serve, learn from, and enjoy Detroit in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
