“If you make the world a better for kids, you make it better for everyone” <\/p>Kid President<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Hi everyone! My name is Edisa and I will be working with the Detroit Public Schools- Office of Homeless and Foster Care. A community is a group of people in the same area working to gather to improve the lives of the people living in that area. What attracted me to do community work in Detroit is because learning about it in my sociology classes, I realized that Detroit is just like my city Chicago. They have very similar social justice issues that are negatively impacting low-income families living in these cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The skills and strengths that I will be bringing to my community project are communication skills, data analysis skills, my love for children in foster care, and my passion for helping children. I have had so many experiences working with children in so many different settings. I have also encountered a lot of youth who have been in the foster care system and who identified as being homeless at some point in their lives. This knowledge will help me be able to provide some input and suggestions to this internship from the youth\u2019s perspective. The skills I would like to develop and improve in this program are data analysis, computer and software data collecting, and learning more about how the children\u2019s home status affects their school performance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
