Happy Sunday! (My bad for being a bit behind lol.) My community placement is with Detroit Public School Community District’s [DPSCD] Talent Pipelines and Professional Growth. This is a team within the Human Resources department focused on growing the teacher talent within DPSCD, by both attracting new teachers and developing current teachers in the field. My project this summer will be researching and developing programming for a Future Teachers Club to implement within DPSCD middle and high schools. Future Teachers Clubs are for students who have a desire to enter the field of education (pretty self-explanatory), and these clubs are only a fraction of the work being done to strengthen the teacher workforce within DPSCD. While my work right now is a bit slow as I’m developing my research question and getting to know other members of the team, by next month I’ll be participating in skill-building workshops with current pre-service (soon-to-be) teachers, interviewing current and upcoming teachers about why they chose this profession, and building a proposal for my programming to share with the team at the end of this internship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for the DCERP experience, y’all are amazing. Not only am I grateful for Ray’s guidance (and the provided dinners twice a week), but meeting all of you both at our meetings and the dorm makes me so happy each day. I tend to be a rather reserved person –as some of us are– but our mix of personalities in this cohort has got to be the best blend. Thank you all for being so welcoming! I hope you enjoy the upcoming week and can beat the heat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
