Some of the services that FOP provides to Parkside residents are cooking classes, health seminars, access to computers and Internet, food programs, a gift giveaway called the Dear Santa Project and a variety of visiting workshops. Their mission is to assist the Parkside community so that it is a healthy, safe environment where residents can take care of their families and business. FOP wants Parkside residents to be informed of, and active participants in their community. A part of my project is to create a better method with which FOP can inform Parkside residents of FOP services and events, and by which FOP can assure residents remain knowledgeable of their community. In order to discover this method in my project I proposed an experiment that studies residents’ knowledge of,and involvement and participation in FOP as I manipulate what mediums are used to inform and communicate with them. In addition to this, I proposed an observational study that notes the types of relationships maintained over FOP’s social media profiles. Additionally, the experiment includes a focus group and interviews of Parkside residents. Basically, my my research project is endeavoring to know what communicative mediums are most useful to FOP and of those, which are most efficient at communicating with residents, volunteers, and sponsors?

On another note, so far my week in Detroit has been pretty cool, this last Sunday I went to the Eastern Market, which usually isn’t open on Sundays. I also went to the Riverwalk and Greektown. Sorry I have no pictures, I’ll have to be more mindful of that.

My community placement is Friends of Parkside; it’s an organization that assist the community of Villages at Parkside, which is a public housing unit with subsided rent.
