I literally flew back, went home for a day and then moved into the dorms the next! Although it was a fast transition <strong>I am glad to be here<\/strong>. Everyone already knows everyone and I am still learning names but it&#8217;s ok because everyone I&#8217;ve meet is super nice!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 This past Tuesday was my first day at the <strong>Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation<\/strong> or DHDC for short and I like it thus far. The project I&#8217;m working on is figuring out why smoking is so popular within the Latino community. The goal is to decrease the use of tobacco; especially for pregnant mothers and youth. Given that the project is new to the organization things are pretty slow here, I&#8217;ve mostly just been doing <strong>A LOT<\/strong> of reading. <strong>Can you keep a secret? <em>Yes?<\/em> Well&#8230;.(says in hushed tones), <\/strong>I&#8217;m writing this blog post at work. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0I chose this site because I love the Spanish language and the project sounded really interesting. The funny part is that I have mostly been speaking in English here; I suppose I am shy when it comes to my Spanish. I love listening to the office conversations though because they are often in Spanglish and it&#8217;s great.
