I only have one new bus adventure to report on this week. On Wednesday my bus was 45 mins late, the bus driver had never driven that route before and apparently got lost. When I got on the bus there was a passenger direct him. I am fortunate to work at a place that has flexible starting hours (you can arrive and leave whenever you want just as long as you put the work int) but working at ROC has made me realize that not every job has the luxury. Had that same situation happened to a restaurant worker- which I am sure that it has- it could be grounds for firing. That incident coupled with the fact that almost every day this week there have been two busses back to back (literally driving one behind the other) have made me realize how much work the Detroit Bus system needs.<\/p>\n
Week two has been great at ROC-Michigan, I have learned so much about the restaurant industry. \u00a0I have been working on my research project which is a literature review on how the density of corner stores affects the diversity of the business in that area. I have faced some problems with this topic. The first is that there is very little research done on this topic. The research done on corner stores mostly focuses on the health risks of eating at a corner store or how corner stores increase crime rates in an area. But i have been able to find some interesting information for my literature review. The second problem -or concern- was that I wasn\u2019t originally sure how my research was helping their campaign. I went to talk to my sponsor about who the intended audience is for my \u00a0literature review. She told me that the literature review was actually extremely important because they need to turn in a piece of research every quarter for one of the grants they had received. The end of the quarter is the end of June and without me they would not have the capacity to turn in a research project. It makes me feel really good knowing how much I am helping out ROC-MI.<\/p>\n
