I am working at the Southwest Detroit Business Association. \u00a0The non profit organization functions as though it is much more than just a business association, they are almost a form of local government or community organizing support. \u00a0I explained a lot about the main project I am helping with on last week’s post, but I am now working on several side projects.<\/p>\n

I am helping a project where we are looking at all of the two-story buildings on Vernor and Springwell and seeing if there is any room to add residential space. \u00a0That project has allowed me to travel up and down the main roads for a couple of days and be able to talk to all sorts of businesses.<\/p>\n

I will also be writing a RFP, which stands for Request for Proposal, to ask local architects to do some work for us at a discounted rate. \u00a0I am pretty unsure about how to write this so it makes me sort of nervous.<\/p>\n

I will also be doing some more research on makerspaces and how they can be profitable, plus research on how much it would cost to host a music event or festival in town.<\/p>\n

According to the Joint Center for Housing at Harvard University, immigration, more than any other single factor, has been responsible for urban revitalization across the U.S. \u00a0Southwest Detroit is the only neighborhood within Detroit that has consistently drawn immigrants and it is one of the most economically thriving neighborhoods as well. Glad to be working in such a dope place this summer!<\/p>\n
