Yet understanding what they mean doesn&#8217;t happen automatically. It takes a time to learn a foreign language: to find paths into it and through it to discover the world from another angle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This blog highlights the translation activities of students of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/modgreek\">Modern Greek Program<\/a> at the University of Michigan. I<\/span><span class=\"s1\">t may be work they\u00a0 produced in a class or independently in another setting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Translation is an activity used very purposefully in <a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/modgreek\/students\/courses.html\">our courses.<\/a> We see it as an intellectually demanding, creative, and richly rewarding process. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">Students\u00a0 work collaboratively. They develop practical knowledge of Greek and English. They study history and culture. They appreciate the challenges of linguistic diversity. They take charge of their reading and viewing activities, define their projects, and produce work that matters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Read on and be inspired!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Words travel quickly around the globe.
