No credit for students who have completed or are enrolled in Math 156, 186, 215, 216, 276, 285, or 286.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Textbook<\/strong>: <em>Calculus, Single Variable<\/em>, Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, et al. There are also videos that pair with the text available through the course Canvas site that provide similar background on the course material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calculators and Technology<\/strong>: No calculators are required, and technology is not permitted on exams or mastery assessments in the course. Some use of other visualization tools such as\u00a0<em>Desmos<\/em>\u00a0is common in the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Content<\/strong>: The course presents the concepts of (integral) calculus from four points of view: geometric (graphs), numeric (tables), symbolic (formulas), and verbal descriptions. Students will develop their reading, writing and questioning skills, as well as their ability to work cooperatively. Topics include techniques of integration, applications of integration, Taylor series, and infinite series. The classroom atmosphere is interactive and cooperative. Both individual and team homework is assigned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Alternatives<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/math\/undergraduates\/undergraduate-math-courses\/100-level-math-courses.html\">Math 186<\/a>\u00a0(Honors Analytic Geometry and Calculus II) is a somewhat more theoretical course which covers much of the same material.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/math\/undergraduates\/undergraduate-math-courses\/100-level-math-courses.html\">Math 156<\/a>\u00a0(Applied Honors Calculus II) also covers much of the same material using MAPLE and emphasizing applications to science and engineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Subsequent Courses<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/courses.lsa.umich.edu\/math-215\/\">Math 215<\/a>\u00a0(Calculus III: Multivariable &amp; Vector Calculus) is the natural sequel.
