Abstract
Health equity is ideal. However, in practice, it can be difficult to pinpoint and implement the most effective solutions. Promoting and working to implement health equity in the workplace, classroom, and communities is one of the chief goals of the University of Michigan Health Equity Leadership Pipeline Collaborative (The Collaborative). Despite the large volume of academic writing regarding public health and health equity, there are few resources that effectively compile existing literature for public use and access. In light of this, The Collaborative began its work on the Health Equity Repository, a resource intended to aggregate and disseminate contemporary academic articles and toolkits pertaining to public health. The Health Equity Leadership Pipeline Collaborative provides innovative, relevant, and scholarly research on health professions and health education training methods to increase the impact of healthcare leadership addressing health equity issues. In this endeavor, Airtable, an online excel-type database, was chosen to help organize and visualize a repository of useful health equity resources. Resources within the Repository range from informal, informational articles about promoting equity in the workplace to more academic journals, and are collected by student researchers through a variety of channels. All are screened for their helpfulness and academic merit, as well as their relevance to the Repository. Because this Health Equity Repository project blends traditional systematic literature review methods with social media designs, we learned a lot about trial and error. There was as much work to do reviewing content as there was problem-solving how to display it for use by the various audiences. The Repository has not yet been published, but upon completion, it will be uploaded to the Collaborative’s website, where it will be available free of charge. We expect the Repository to be useful to researchers, students, and all those with a vested interest in public health and health equity. Overall, it works to spread messages of inclusivity and intersectionality, through promoting health equity.
