Abstract
The Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate high school curricula and exams allow high school students to take college-level coursework and potentially earn college credit. However, when it comes to the awarding of credit, there are disparities between institutions. For the same test score on one exam, some institutions might award equivalent course credit, while others award non-equivalent credit. The disparities are also evident in the course placement policies that allow students to bypass introductory courses based on their test scores. This project is intended to take public information about credit and placement courses collected from postsecondary institutions and compile it into an interactive website. Our research focuses on effectively presenting the data for prospective college students to easily compare credit policies among different exams and institutions. Data presentations were tested with first-year college students utilizing paper and wireframe prototypes coupled with qualitative interviews. Ultimately, our research will result in a website where students can easily explore credit policies, high school counselors can aid their students, and university administrators can compare exam policies with other institutions.
