Abstract

One of the aims of the project Assumptions of Physics is to establish a well defined and logically consistent framework that establishes distinct requirements for scientific theories, providing each mathematical definition with a clear physical counterpart. The first requirement explored is that of experimental verifiability. The core object is a verifiable statement: an assertion that can be assigned a truth value, and whose test can be completed in finite time. We show that sets of verifiable statements, called experimental domains, map to point-set topologies closed under finite intersection and countable union. Similarly, there are theoretical statements, assertions that can be associated with a test, regardless of termination. These can be mapped to sigma algebras, closed under countable union and complement, and from these, countable intersection as well. The poster will go into detail on this mapping process.
