Abstract
The purpose of this project is to document the historical changes within the South African languages. For me, I am focusing on Zulu so far, through observations of the vocabulary. The biases and different structure of the language and the history of the people who speak it, and how it has changed over time. Preserving the Zulu language by documenting it in a lexicon with other South African languages so that the history of the people who speak these languages can be remembered and known. About observing the language and structure of the dictionary it is in, how that plays into biases within the language, and how the reader of the dictionary interacts with it. Why the dictionary is the way it is and why this particular Zulu dictionary is not popular in specific detail. Explaining what it means to see how the language vocabulary has progressed over time, how it translates over into English, and what that means. It’s an explanation of an ongoing project that will have great social benefit to scholars/researchers, linguists, people who speak Zulu and other South African languages. A benefit to history and time itself, as well as language lovers, teachers, and more. A project that will turn into a lexicon that will write a history of the people who speak these languages, which hasn’t been done before.
