Abstract
Our research focuses on the evaluation of the Cultural Complications curriculum, which covers 12 core themes in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and is being implemented via training modules in the Department of Surgery and other healthcare settings across the United States. Our work on this process and outcome evaluation is focused primarily on data collected via pre-surveys and module-specific surveys. These instruments examine variables including respondent perceptions of DEI efforts in their institutions, exposure to biases/discrimination and perceptions of bias/discrimination directed at colleagues and patients, preparedness to address instances of subtle and overt bias, perceptions of Cultural Complications content and processes, and learning from modules. We are using SPSS to analyze survey data and Excel to create data visualizations for use in dashboards. We will share the dashboards with stakeholders from participating institutions and interested colleagues in research settings including conferences, meetings, and symposia. This data could be used to help stakeholders from participating institutions better understand the need for DEI programming in their setting, what is working well, and what could be done better. We will draw from this work to create a presentation for the UROP symposium.
