Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted so many people whether it being survivors of the disease, caregivers, or healthcare workers. Health Advanced by Adjusting and Recovering Together (HEART) is a project that uses qualitative analysis to compile common themes and experiences from COVID-19 survivors as well as their caregivers. Written narratives or “stories†of patient or caregiver experiences were collected on a webform. Both patient and their caregiver narratives have not been examined for this population. We seek to describe the key events, ascribed meaning, commonalities, and information of perceived importance across patient and caregiver healthcare journeys to inform future intervention. The written narrative data will be analyzed in order to find these commonalities which are called “codesâ€. Once the data is coded, a finalized code book will be established so that it can be used towards each narrative in order to compare and contrast them. Narrative analysis will also be done to see how each story differs from the others. This type of analysis can be beneficial because it allows the researchers to see how respondents retell their experiences. Furthermore, narrative analysis in the context of incidences of COVID-19 can be used to analyze each and every aspect of healthcare that was used. For example, these narratives start with onset of the disease, and continue through hospitalization (in some) and end in recovery. These results can be used to inform healthcare practices in order to improve the quality of care for future patients and caregivers.
