Abstract

It is within the essential nature of communities to support and uplift their residents, providing them with a space to not only survive, but also thrive. Hope Village Revitalization, a community-based non-profit organization serving the Hope Village neighborhood in Detroit, strives to do just that. Hope Village Revitalization’s mission is to create a sustainable, equitable neighborhood with a high quality of life for all. HVR works to provide access to opportunity for neighborhood residents, providing them with the necessary support systems, resources, and information they need to succeed. Hope Village Revitalization has invested in several community-based projects, including a weekly Farmer’s Market, energy efficiency home improvements, exterior home repairs, community arts programs, and the distribution of health information and resources. In my time with Hope Village, I have primarily worked with the social media and communications departments. As a non-profit, Hope Village relies on donations in order to continue its work, and this necessitates the creation of a clear and appealing platform for the program to stand on. As part of my research, I have created graphics, flyers, and videos, as well as performed interviews with community leaders in order to tell the stories of the residents of this community. Hope Village continues to prioritize the health, success, and well-being of its residents, and I believe that being a part of this program has taught me about both the power of community and the importance of equity and success for individuals in a neighborhood.
