Abstract

A study was undertaken to investigate the influence of Heart Rate Variability on people!s academic performance, focusing on the first-year female student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. There will be two parts of the research. This project will focus on the first part. In part 1, participants will be required to perform three different body positions(standing, supine, and leaning against the wall) with the device Biostrap to collect their changes in HRV. In the second part, they will be asked to wear the Biostrap in their daily lives to monitor the longer term changes in HRV during free living conditions. A recent experiment observed that there was a positive correlation between HRV and cognition and we hypothesize that HRV data will be correlated with students’ academic performance. The preliminary findings will be shared in this presentation.
