Abstract

A summer 2021 research project developed a GUI in Matlab using its stateflow capabilities that creates functions useful for manufacturing system performance evaluation. The idea is that a Markov system state diagram can be displayed (i.e., a Markov chain) for two interacting production machines, then conditions that limit the state relationships are input, and a Markov transition matrix Matlab function is finally automatically generated that can be called on by other Matlab programs. The objective of this research project is to ensure that the structure of any transition matrix is correct based on its intent from the GUI, extend the functionality of this program to improve its flexibility for use in the optimization of manufacturing lines, and develop new state relationship structures. Documentation of the program and its current capabilities is available.
