Abstract

Co-agonist drug treatments pave the way for diabetic drug development. While targeting receptors for GIP or GLP-1, co-agonism has been shown to provide more efficacious results while also limiting toxic side effects. The mechanism of action for dual incretin hormone agonism is through inhibiting GLP-1 receptor neurons in the hindbrain. Through dual incretin agonism, by testing mouse models, we are better able to better understand the changes in body weight, food intake, and toxic side effects by examining the effect of neuronal GIPR.
