Abstract
Data for the present study were taken from longitudinal speech samples used in a project analyzing MRI data from children who do and do not stutter. The present study compared groups in terms of lexical diversity, or VOCD scores, taken from behavioral speech samples. Using the program CLAN, speech samples were analyzed for diversity of the child’s vocabulary. While the literature is mixed regarding whether language, and specifically vocabulary, is related to stuttering, the present project contributes to these results with cross-sectional analysis of larger group sizes than many previous studies. Conclusions may guide further longitudinal analyses and inform clinical assessment of children who stutter.
