Abstract
With the arrival of the Nuclear Age came along a plethora of new inventions utilizing the new technology for purposes ranging from food to medicine to national defense. But along with this came a need to measure and detect radiation in an increasingly precise manner. This project aims to assist that progress, by working with a state-of-the-art He-4-based gaseous scintillation detector, designed by Arktis Radiation Detection Systems for fast neutron measurement. With this detector we aim to measure neutrons within the 100 keV to 14 MeV range. Upon collecting raw detector data, the detector response will be analyzed using CERN ROOT. The main end goal is to observe the detector’s reaction to 100 keV to 14 MeV neutrons to observe if it has robust sensitivity to neutrons below 1 MeV. If so, it would be a great improvement over the current organic scintillator-based fast neutron spectroscopy.
