Abstract
Across academic literature, collaboration itself has been widely researched and documented, however, there are few resources available to support faculty in initiating international partnerships. The ORBIT Project is a collaborative bipartite effort between Kelly M. Murdoch-Kitt (University of Michigan) and Denielle J. Emans (Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar) to combat this lack of resources. The project comprises a book (Orbit: Designing Intercultural Collaborations; manuscript in progress) and companion webtool: Online Resource for Building Intercultural Teams (ORBIT). The book proposes design-based methods as a driving force behind successful communication, collaboration, and co-creation between virtual cross-cultural teams, based upon the authors’ seven years of ethnographic research. The tool aims to bridge the gap by enabling faculty to learn about and share the products of their virtual collaborations with a wider audience. Those who have experience with cross-cultural collaborations, as well as those who have interest but no prior experience, will benefit from the opportunity to connect with faculty across cultures and disciplines.
