Abstract
Intercultural collaboration has the power to transcend national borders while offering team members a diverse array of perspectives and opportunities. This type of teamwork contributes to creating a better team environment and understanding of one another’s culture. The crux of this research compiles 5 key projects (Middle School Platform, Humanities, Intercultural Collaboration by Design, Creative Resilience, and ManageHF) conducted by the ORBIT (Online Resource for Building Intercultural Teams) Research Lab, to build a web tool that is centered around aiding educators and researchers connect to enhance collaboration opportunities. The motivation behind the ORBIT Labs website stems from the principles laid out in the book, Intercultural Collaboration by Design, written by Kelly Murdoch-Kitt and Denielle Emans. The two, alongside the ORBIT Labs team, have conducted ongoing research on how multicultural perspectives help bridge the gap between people across different cultures to better enhance teamwork. The book provides a framework for cross-cultural learning through over 30 different team-building activities. This research is also in the process of modifying the design of the ORBIT Teams website. Through the ideas presented in the book, Intercultural Collaboration by Design, the ORBIT team has been able to build an online platform where educators and researchers from different disciplines can connect through common interests and carry out collaborations. The future of the ORBIT web tool will provide collaborators with an interactive platform that facilitates multicultural teamwork.
