Abstract
The substantial disparities within the quality of survivorship care received are affected by the collaboration within a care team, often involving oncology and primary care physicians (PCP). The long-term planning, preventative care measures taken, and course of treatment all impact the delivery and quality of care received and may vary greatly in vulnerable populations. This project intends to expand existing knowledge of cancer survivorship care through evaluating the effects of communication and involvement level of various healthcare providers on the quality of care received within a diverse population of women with a history of breast cancer. We anticipate that heightened PCP involvement can reduce disparities within the delivery and quality of care received after treatment. Although it is expected that oncology providers will be the most prominently involved in survivorship care, and increased disparities will be more present in care received amongst vulnerable populations. We will observe the trends of disparities within survivorship care through surveying participants in a follow-up study for the iCanCare Study. To obtain a more complete picture of the care received, patients will report information on their initial treatment and care-related decision-making processes with their providers, alongside demographic information such as education level, race, income and insurance, ethnicity or cultural identity, and literacy. Results from this study can be applied to better prepare healthcare providers for meeting the needs of an individual’s survivorship care through having identified and being informed of key disparities and patterns in the quality of care.
