Abstract

Currently, we are living in a patriarchal society where men have dominated the job market, and they clearly have an advantage over women in career advancement. In addition, to the gender disparity, there is also racial inequality in the market where minority candidates do not have the proper opportunities. The project Racial and Gender Differences in the Managerial Labor Market studies comprehensively this inequality difference by using the dataset Directory of Corporate Affiliations (DCA). The DCA gives specific information about companies, such as corporate identity, descriptive data, and personnel. Using this information, conclusions can be drawn about a company’s profile and how they select employees for their staff. Then using the programming language STATA, it is possible to match the manager’s name to their ID and with this information, it can be determined the type of people they are employing. Overall, the project combines firm and individual data to determine the impact of a person’s demographics and firm operations on an employee’s career advancement.
