Abstract

In exploring Saint of Migration such as La Santa Muerte (LSM) and St. Toribio Romo, there is evidence that explains how people wrongly assume the purposes some saints serve, along with media bias against cultures. This research dismantles the misconceptions of how saints are leveraged by migrants & how Latinx people & faith are/is sometimes misrepresented in the media. Evidence to support this would be in cinema films, literature, and news outlets where people commonly absorb information about cultures. This project relies on mostly qualitative data, such as personal testimonies, experiences, case studies, etc. This project also addresses various DEI conflicts on behalf of the Latinx & LGBTQ+ community and their faith practices. The research indicates that Latinx individuals and groups are misrepresented in the media and that La Santa Muerte is a deity that people rely on for community & faith. For those that aren’t accepted by norms of society, it’s difficult to find a place for faith & community, but saints like LSM offer that community & hope for them. It further contributes to dismantling the misconceptions of other cultures & media bias.
