Abstract
The research conducted focused on gathering information regarding adjuvants, specifically learning about each adjuvant and what vaccine it is being implemented into, and inputting said data into a database known as VIOLIN: Vaccine Investigation and Online Information Network. The methodology for this study consisted of using the Vaccine Adjuvant Compendium (VAC) website to identify an adjuvant and then finding scholarly published articles, usually on PubMed, about its in vivo and vivo usage. The VAC website provided other characteristic information about these compounds, including its components, preparation, safety information, host species, dosage, and function. In addition, a vaccine was found for each identified adjuvant that had either been tested in a clinical trial or was intended to be; some of this information included the vaccine preparation, the disease or pathogen being targeted, the host response, the vaccine type, and the antigen name. Lastly, all of this researched data was placed into the VIOLIN database, compiling scientific evidence about vaccines and adjuvants into one place, making it an educational tool. 18 adjuvants and 18 corresponding vaccines were researched and inputted into the VIOLIN website. This study succeeded in updating the website with current information about vaccines and adjuvants and, in doing so, providing researchers with up-to-date information that they can use when educating themselves and conducting new research studies. Furthermore, scientists can use this data to guide the revampment of current vaccines and adjuvants.
