Abstract
Racism is a prevalent issue within our world today even within our own community at the University of Michigan. The undoing racism work group within the school of social work work towards dismantling forms of oppression.The ultimate goal is to have a model in place for the University of Michigan to handle and address racism issues as they come out. It focuses on developing an effective model where people can address the issues of racism within an institution. In order to create these models we use mixed methods. Using pre and post evaluations we are able to see outcomes and changes to see what is or isn’t working for people. Many times we use the transtheoretical theory of change to evaluate how well each model works. There have been changes in how well people understand the various concepts which are presented which shows more people feel like they are more equipped with tools and strategies to address oppressive behavior. The more people feel equipped and can intervene and disrupt oppression, specifically racism, then the more we can reduce this from happening and having harmful effects on people of color. When this change occurs we will not only create a cohesive and more welcoming environment but people of color will stop being hurt. This project which then can contribute to people of color having anti-racist health care.
