Abstract
The project Western Forest and Fire Initiative explores the connections between key stakeholders in the forest fire management process in order to help the policymakers better understand the relationship between the actors, therefore allowing the policymakers to make better policy. It is a project that is still in the initial data collection phase, and I am in charge of implementing an automated web scraper to download data for wildfire incidents. I will also learn about social network analysis and help in creating a comprehensive database of actors involved in wildfire management. The result of this research will be a network approach to the study of the social system of fire response and treatment, that includes information of actors involved in wildfire management and their relationship with each other. This is a very innovative research approach since most of the previous research focuses on analyzing the relationship between the wildfire and the environment, yet this research focuses on a social aspect of wildfire management by making use of publicly available data sources. This research has the potential to improve coordination and cooperation among relevant stakeholders in wildfire management in Western states.
