Abstract
Whole health care is a form of integrative and preventative health developed by the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and it is used for both veterans and students to optimize physical and mental well being. In order to see the overall effects of this system on both students and veterans daily lives, a qualitative and quantitative survey was created by a team of 20 students at the University of Michigan. The developed survey consisted of multiple choice and open response questions, each broken down by different self-care areas that have not been deeply researched yet: power of the mind, spirit and soul, relationships, recharge, nutrition, personal life and work life, surroundings, and moving the body. Using Qualtrics to create the survey, it was then randomly distributed over the course of a month to students and veterans around the United States. While the results are still pending, the team plans on analyzing the data using SPSS, a data management and statistical analysis software. After understanding these results, students – individually or collectively – will explore different aspects of whole health care and implement a project within the student population at the University. These projects will range in different self-care areas, and collectively as a team they will create a positive change in the community as a whole.
