Abstract

Dr. Omar Ahmed’s lab research focuses on understanding how neurons are able to complete the task of navigating around space with/without cues and what part of the neural system fails in people with neurological and psychiatric disorders. The aim is to eventually repair the neurons and computations, helping those unable to navigate because of Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and epilepsy. My part of the project builds on the work already completed in the lab and integrates a new behavior protocol and a motor control software into the current behavior control set-ups.
