Abstract
Due to the lethal complications that arise from metastasis to the brain, it is of utmost importance to detect a tumor’s metastatic potential. This project aims to improve upon an existing blood brain barrier on a chip device that tests triple-negative breast cancer cells’ potential to metastasize to the brain. In order to gather data from the cells that infiltrate the microfluidic blood-brian barrier model, the cancer cells are barcoded with fluorescent labels: GFP, cerulean, cherry, and EBFP, via transduction. The cells that do metastasize are uniquely identified and can therefore be isolated to study its properties, such as migratory behavior, gene expression, and therapeutic testing.
