Abstract
Real-time sentence processing is impacted by a large amount of different factors. However, linguistics research has attempted to isolate these factors in order to gain a more accurate understanding of each of their individual contributions. Within the field of linguistics, researchers often elect to use one or multiple types of tasks to collect data. Some of these tasks include acceptability judgment tasks, stop making sense tasks, and maze tasks. Research in events and verbs done by McKoon and Love (2011) found a relationship between verb complexity and processing times using a stop making sense task. However, previous work done by the University of Michigan WordLab conducted with the stimuli from the original study did not replicate the same effect. But, unlike the original, the lab’s previous research elected to use the maze task as the task type. This project aims to leverage PCIBex to implement stop making sense and self paced reading tasks to help researchers determine if task type influences experiment results. But more specifically, by storing the code for the experiments on an accessible GitHub repository and outlining the general development process, this project aims to create accessible task templates and clear development standards for the PCIBex platform. By doing so, the project seeks to enable other researchers to run and create their own experiments. All created experiments were ultimately deployed to a linux-based web server to create an environment to run new studies.
