Abstract
Despite there being a number of studies that have been conducted on contracting between different firms, there have been no studies done on the contracts formed within multinational firms. Information regarding these contracts would be helpful in assisting businesses create their own internal contracts. To study these types of contracts, we took a large number of contracts and coded them based on what terms were a part of the agreement. Following this, we analyzed the contracts and compared them to what external contracts generally include. The research has not concluded yet, but what we hope to learn is how contracts differ in subsidiaries v.s. third parties, as well as why these differences appear. What this project does is shed light on the theory of the firm. Everyday, large numbers of transactions happen everyday within firm boundaries, and we don’t know much about how these are managed. With the results from this research, we seek to learn more about these transactions so that the knowledge may be used to assist business decisions in making their own internal contracts as well as anybody who may need to know this information as a part of their occupation.
