Abstract

The project’s larger goal is to determine how the sizes of galaxies correlate with the properties of the dark matter halos hosting them. To do so, we analyze observational data gathered from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Kilo Degree Survey. In particular, our goal is to measure the gravitational lensing signal around galaxies as a function of their size. I am currently learning to code python and using those skills to build a program that will compute the lensing signal of different galaxy samples. The results can lead to answers about the correlation between galaxies and dark matter halos, thereby giving insight into galaxy formation.
