Abstract
Detroit is a city filled with a variety of identities, each identity as important as the rest. Dream of Detroit is a Muslim-led, non-profit organization that cultivates community while rehabilitating housing in order to empower those living within a ten-block neighborhood in Detroit that has faced municipal neglect. This project primarily focuses on Detroit’s Black Muslim community leaders, often unheard of in mainstream society. Nonetheless, hearing and amplifying the voices of Detroit’s Black Muslim leaders would enrich our understanding of the city, and the nation. Thus, the “Detroit Muslim Storytelling Project†aims to do exactly that. This project is conducted by compiling video-recorded oral history interviews and documentary footage collections featuring community leaders and everyday citizens of the area. We aspire to provide this platform for the community in order to magnify their impact on Detroit, the nation, and the rest of the world.
