Abstract
This project includes working with Great Lakes Now, which is a multimedia, regional initiative, housed at Detroit Public Television (DPTV). The focal point of the project sets out on a mission to connect content and community engagement, specifically, researching how nonprofits organizations can use GLN content in their programming and how GLN can gauge the impact of that connection. In order to do this, the project conducted focused conversations with various nonprofits, interview style, to allow them to better inform us of potential next steps and gain insight on where GLN content could best be used for their purposes. Furthermore, this project collaborated with an outside firm contracted by the station, The Emergence Collective, to conduct a survey of nonprofits to better understand how to connect them to us and how to use GLN content in their work. This survey will collect data after we have identified where GLN content can be used in non profits programming and when the GLN information is actually implemented. This project with Great Lakes Now will, hopefully, be the spark that can ignite a system of relatively easy engagement with nonprofits and other communities and then provide feedback/support from these groups back to GLN. If nonprofit organizations around the Great Lakes choose to utilize GLN content, they can help individuals, organizations, non-living human beings (environment), and so much more. If environmental information is spread and used to inform, it will make the world and its citizens better off.
