Abstract
The Electrochemical Science and Technology and Information Resource (ESTIR) currently has an unpalatable user interface and user experience, resulting in fewer site visits. The ESTIR is an official database filled with tons of information regarding electrochemistry. While the topic of the project is electrochemistry, my role is actually centered around website building and designing. Our project aimed to revamp the site and improve the user experience and site visuals. In our project, we did an initial user research survey with a professor to find problems with the website. Once we narrowed down a list, we conducted secondary research and found Neislon’s Useability Heuristics which we used in evaluating the site’s interface ourselves. We later worked on the project mostly in two parts: the front end during the Fall semester and the back end during the Winter semester. We applied our research on effective web design throughout the creative process, only using efficient and appealing components. At the end of our project, we created a new site that will increase the number of site visits and craft a better experience amongst those in the electrochemical community. This research is valuable as the ESTIR is an important, well-known resource amongst the electrochemical community that should be used more often, but is often disregarded because of its appearance.
