Abstract
Due to a lack of data and knowledge, there has been less progress made in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) inside the research field itself than there has been in the workplaces of research professionals. Through a multi-method approach that includes a literature review, surveys, interviews, and workshops to help provide other sources of information to improve the research, our project’s objective is to promote DEI. It is possible to provide an area where people, teams, and units can find a set of resources, tools, and information to help them make progress toward creating a more inclusive, welcoming, and diverse environment for all by sending a demographic survey to RD and DEI professionals with a set of survey questions tailored to their profession. The objective of this 18-month study is to collect at least 40 surveys from participants. In a subsequent U-M workshop, 25 UM workers of RD or DEI will be divided into smaller groups of 4-5 individuals to discuss DEI frameworks. In order to collect data and progress our research project to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the research sector, we will benefit from the additional information and insight provided by RD and DEI professionals as a result of this initiative.
