Abstract
Dementia, and more broadly, cognitive impairment, affects millions of Americans every day. However, there is more left to learn about the lived experiences and attitudes of caregivers for older adults who have dementia, as well as caregivers for older adults in general. This project aims to focus on the differences that exist between the caregivers of dementia patients and the caregivers to older adults without dementia. In a post-pandemic world, the ideas of family and cohabitation may have changed, this research intends to focus on those changes as well as caregiver attitudes. Research across various social-science databases as well as extensive literature review on dementia-related topics helped to form the basis of our understanding. Research suggests the findings of changing views and attitudes regarding caregiving for older adults, as well as who this category is composed of. These findings add viable information to the limited resources that exist regarding dementia care and the care for older adults with and without cognitive decline.
