Abstract
Alcohol and substance use is an issue that disproportionately affects young adults (18-25 years) compared to every other age group. The rates of both substance use and misuse for this age range are more than double the amount of all adults over the age of 12, leading to serious physical and mental consequences. Additionally, identifying with racial, ethnic, sexual, economic, and other minority groups have historically been shown to provide a greater amount of barriers and additional stress when it comes to accessing treatment and other resources. We want to know what substance use interventions are already accounted for in research that has been published, as well as the topics that have less research devoted to them. The purpose of this literature review is to identify studies that pertain to substance use prevention and treatment within four specific categories. These categories are prevention interventions for emerging adults delivered using a digital platform, treatment interventions for emerging adults delivered using a digital platform, prevention interventions tailored for marginalized populations, and treatment interventions tailored for marginalized populations.
