Abstract: Viruses have gained increasing attention as a threat to global public health. Peracetic acid, chloramines, and chlorine dioxide are all disinfectants widely used in water treatment, but their effects on different viruses under different conditions have not been fully described. Clarification of virus inactivation by these disinfectants is necessary to design effective disinfection systems. A rapid systematic literature review was conducted by three researchers using a blind. Three databases were searched for virus inactivation with peracetic acid, chloramines, and chlorine dioxide, resulting in 4277 articles. 996 duplicates were excluded. The review so far has excluded 603 articles out of 2082 reviewed, with reviewer conflicts manually resolved. Articles are included if they meet three criteria: They study virus disinfection by one or more of peracetic acid, chloramines, or chlorine dioxide, they study disinfection in a liquid, and they are written in English. Data extracted from the included articles will be used in statistical modelling to estimate disinfection kinetics. Through this review and the subsequent models, we hope to improve understanding of virus inactivation kinetics. This will contribute to the protection of public health through water and wastewater disinfection of viruses.
