Abstract

Low-noise laboratory power supplies are crucial for testing modern high-performance integrated circuits (ICs); however, they can be prohibitively expensive in an academic setting. This work introduces a novel low-noise power supply for IC testing utilizing standard lithium-ion battery cells. The solution includes overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, basic recharging capabilities, and carefully selected surface-mount components to minimize noise. Moreover, a low-dropout regulator (LDO) is attached to each voltage supply to further suppress noise due to its characteristic power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). This solution is expected to produce significantly less noise than common laboratory power supplies at a much lower cost.
