Abstract
Canonical signaling refers to well-established/predictable signaling pathways. Non-canonical signaling refers to pathways that diverge from typical signaling pathways. Tyrosine kinase receptors are cell surface receptors, with one receptor on the outside (extracellular) of the cell and the other part on the inside (intracellular). The goal of this research project is to investigate the non-canonical pathway of tyrosine kinase receptor Erbb4 and its contribution to astrogenesis. The hypothesis is that upon activation from neuregulin, the cleavable intracellular domain of Erbb4 called E4ICD will signal downstream and translocate to the nucleus, where it will be attached to PARP1 (an enzyme) and repress astrogenesis. This research establishes the formation of cleavable E4ICD and PARP1, an enzyme, within the nucleus as a core feature of the noncanonical pathway of Errb4.
