Abstract
Although there are many software applications that allow engineers to model structures (OpenSees, SAP2000, etc.), the software tool WiRA (Wind Reliability Analysis) was created in order to specifically benefit the implementation of performance-based wind engineering (PBWE). The detailed post-processing of the analysis results with animation of the time-varying response metrics is key for engineers to better understand the performance of their designs and how they are affected by winds of varying intensity. Various post-processing and visualization features are added to WiRA in this research, including the ability for the user to graphically create and visualize models and animate results in time and space. The application software will be validated on a full-scale building example and subsequently tested by a structural design consulting firm. This research will eventually deliver a tool that can significantly facilitate the implementation of state-of-the-art PBWE.
