Abstract
Background: Clinician bias towards perinatal substance use is a significant problem in health care settings resulting in inequitable care and poor outcomes; however, effective interventions are lacking. ArtSpectiveâ„¢, an arts-based intervention, facilitates perspective taking to decrease clinician stigma, but the digital, asynchronous version has not yet been evaluated for feasibility and satisfaction. Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of a web-based version of ArtSpectiveâ„¢ and user satisfaction using theater testing methods. Methods: Using qualitative descriptive design, we theater tested a web-based platform designed for digital, asynchronous delivery of ArtSpectiveâ„¢ among a sample of registered nurses working in perinatal units. We recruited 13 participants from a Midwest US academic medical center to participate in individual theater tests conducted via video conference and consisting of live demonstrations of the platform, semi-structured interviews, and completion of a satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the constant comparative method to identify major and minor themes. Results: Overall, participants reported that the digital version of ArtSpectiveâ„¢ was easy to navigate, understand, and complete. Satisfaction scores on a 13 item scale were high across all participants. Participants provided some recommendations to improve the navigation and user experience. Some improvements included: removing the option to add a profile photo, better accessibility to print the completion certificate, and clearer instructions during the perspective taking module. Conclusion: The web-based platform for ArtSpectiveâ„¢ delivery was found to be feasible and operational, and participants reported high satisfaction with the platform. Next steps include finalizing the web-based platform and testing the intervention for feasibility and efficacy in a clinical trial.
