Abstract
Background: The purpose of the study is to determine if there is a difference between the postoperative outcomes of two procedures, Valve Sparing Aortic Root Replacement (VSARR) and Aortic Root Replacement with concomitant Aortic Valve Replacement (Freestyle). We aim to determine if there is a significant difference between these two procedures on a long term basis by analyzing the patients’ survival rate and post procedure complications. Methods: Patients who underwent either VSARR or Aortic Valve Replacement with Freestyle tissue valves from 2004-2022, were propensity score matched to a total subject pool of 482 patients, with 241 patients in each group. We examined the potential differences between the two procedures via data collection on the long-term follow-up for each patient in MiChart. We evaluated a time period for any perioperative outcomes as within a time frame of 30 days, and followed patients for any long-term changes after. Results (Still in progress): I will be analyzing whether the patient had: Prior valve replacement, Coronary Artery Disease, Bicuspid Aortic Valve disease, lung disease, and their ejection fraction prior to their procedure. In addition, I will also be determining if the patient underwent reoperation for bleeding, was diagnosed with stroke or cva, pneumonia, chronic renal failure, chronic renal failure requiring dialysis, heart block requiring pacemaker, postoperative atrial fibrillation or had operative mortality. All this data will be found through the program called emerse through michart or careweb. Conclusion: I expect to determine if there is a significant difference between long term variables and outcomes of the two groups by performing statistical analysis.
